Lecture subjects

I am very flexible in my approach to one/two-hour lectures. I like to think that I can talk on most aspects of woven cloth design. Email me with your telephone number to discuss the needs of your group.

The following are a selection of the talks I have given recently, which have been successful:

1. 'Thirty Years of Weaving'
A talk explaining my philosophy and approach to weaving, illustrated with slides of the fabrics I have woven during 30 years at the loom.

2. 'How to Design Fabrics'
Using the many samples of fabrics I have woven in my life, I discuss the criteria that need to be considered when designing a woven fabric. - Colour, Yarn, Fibre, Sett, Weave and Finishing. This is a hands-on audience interactive talk.

3. 'Practical Rug Weaving'
This talk discusses practical methods and gives practical tips to enable weft faced floor rugs to be woven successfully. Topics covered include: Warp yarns, Sett, Warping techniques. Dressing techniques, Selvedges, Weaving techniques and Weave structures.

4. 'Colour in Fabrics'
The ways of colouring yarn and fabrics is discussed and illustrated with the use of fabric samples. Hints and tips of how to decide on exciting colour schemes are covered.
